A Break in a Milwaukee Hit and Run
Investigators may have found a hit-and-run vehicle that struck and injured a Milwaukee police officer on Christmas Day. 37-year-old Frank Vrtochnick was standing near his squad car when he was hit by an auto that was going on the wrong side of a street. It never stopped. Yesterday, police said they found a car that matched a description of the vehicle — but they stopped short of saying it was actually the one involved. Officers said they acted on a tip when they seized the car from a garage a few blocks from where the crash occurred. Vrtochnick, a five-year veteran of the Milwaukee Police force, remains hospitalized in critical condition. The Sheboygan Press reports that the officer was a graduate of Sheboygan South High School.
